"These leaders are Atlanta's best and brightest. We are pleased to partner in such a worthwhile endeavor. We committed to fund the program for four years because we want it to have a significant and lasting impact on our community."

Recognizing that sectors other than industry were greatly under-served in the development of diversity management capabilities, AIMD founded DLA in early 2001 with the support of its founding sponsor, The Coca-Cola Company. DLA’s mission is to help bring state-of-the-art diversity management leadership development to key organizations and institutions across society that face substantial diversity management issues. Many of these institutions lack the financial resources required to access diversity management education. Supported by visionary sponsors, DLA provides education and leadership development at little or no cost to non-profit, religous, education, government and civic organization leaders.
The Diversity Leadership Academy of Atlanta is the flagship program and was launched in 2001. The Diversity Leadership Academy of Atlanta meets the needs of leaders from various community sectors through education and leadership development experiences.
Funded through a grant of $1.5 million from The Coca-Cola Company, the program's goal is to contribute to building a community that works for all its citizens. The $1.5 million grant was awarded to the American Institute for Managing Diversity (AIMD), an 18-year old, Atlanta-based, nonprofit, public interest organization that has been at the forefront of education and research in the field of diversity management.
The Coca-Cola grant funds fellowships for up to 350 leaders throughout the Atlanta Community over a four year period. Leaders may self-nominate for participation in the program or are nominated by previously graduated Academy Fellows.
